fencing

athletic career

Sports always have been a big part of Alexandra’s life.

At the age of four she started doing Track and Field and at the age of nine she started doing Modern Pentathlon.

It was then that she discovered her passion for fencing as one of the five disciplines. The combination of athletics, dynamics and strategy instantly drew her interest and caught her attention. Fencing soon became one of her strongest disciplines in Modern Pentathlon.

In 2006 Alexandra finally decided to specialize in epee fencing.

In 2007 she moved to Bonn and started training with Manfred Kaspar and Dirk Schiffler who have been her coaches ever since. Continuously improving on the piste as well as in the rankings Alexandra became part of Germany’s second team in 2010.

Biography Part 1

The years in Bayreuth

Alexandra was born on August 13th 1986 in Bayreuth, Germany.

She grew up in the same city as the second daughter to a Polish mother and a Kenyan father.

When her mother remarried Alexandra’s family enlarged by two younger half sisters and a stepfather.

Throughout elementary and high school she not only engaged in sports but also started playing the piano and violin. Later on in high school she joined the choir.

Alexandra spent eleventh grade in the US as an exchange student. During that year she further enhanced her personal and athletic development. Joining the swimming, basketball and the track and field team she participated in the State Tournaments of Arizona State in all three sports. Thanks to her host parents and the highschool`s athletics department Alexandra was able to engage in four out of the five disciplines composing the modern pentathlon. However, her favourite one, fencing, was not included in the wide range of her school`s program. After that valuable experience Alexandra returned to Germany.

Biography Part 2

New beginning in Bonn

She finished high school in Bayreuth and then moved to Bonn to pursue her fencing career.

Simultaneously she began studying at the School for Medical Technical-Assistants which is part of Colognes University Hospital. In 2011 she successfully passed her state examination and graduated. While juggling the double load of her academic career and daily training she could still see that she was moving in the right direction, also due to her supportive social and training environment.

Following her medical training Alexandra joined the German Army to become a sports soldier. Besides that she is studying Business Psychology at the Rheinische Fachhochschule in Cologne.

When she is not fencing she enjoys spending time with her friends and family, traveling and getting to know foreign cultures. These interests were nurtured by her parents who studied in an international environment and by exploring different parts of the world with their children kindled their daughters´ curiosity.

Right at the foot of the sugarloaf mountain is the Praia Vermelha which provided us with a breathtakingly beautiful setting for this part of the photo session.
